Duke Basketball Head Coach and recently appointed United States National Head Coach, Mike Krzyzewski, cannot be defined solely by those accolades reserved for a highly successful sports coach. He led the Irish to the NCAA tournament in his first three years as head coach (2001-2003), notching a Sweet Sixteen appearance in 2003. Brey is a veteran of the college basketball wars, having been an assistant to Mike Krzyzewski at Duke for eight seasons, head coach at Delaware for five seasons and three seasons tucked away in the record books as head coach at Notre Dame. Using a four-guard lineup, Villanova finished with 28 wins, the most in school history, earning a share of the Big East Conference regular season title along the way. It spent the entire season ranked in the top 10 of both the Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN polls, climbing as high as No. 2 in February. The Wildcats were rewarded with the first NCAA Tournament No. 1 seed in the program's history and advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time since 1988.
