Stephen C. Luce, Ph.D. Dr. Stephen C. Luce is the Vice-President for Clinical Programs, Training and Research of Melmark, Inc., a comprehensive human service agency serving adults and children with neurological and developmental disorders including mental retardation, autism and acquired brain injuries. Dr. Luce received his doctorate in 1979 in Developmental and Child Psychology from the University of Kansas. Dr. Luce also holds a Masters in Education degree from the Division of Exceptional Children at the University of Georgia and an A.B. degree in Psychology from Marietta College in Ohio. Dr. Luce has spent much of his career as a teacher and psychologist working with children with developmental disorders and/or behavioral disorders. Previously, Dr. Luce was the Executive Director of the Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School and Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Chicago. Dr. Luce has served in Executive clinical positions at Bancroft NeuroHealth in New Jersey and The May Institute in Massachusetts. Throughout his career, Dr. Luce has focused on the provision of services to children with autism spectrum disorders and other neurological disorders. Much of his work has been in residential treatment centers where he has developed clinical interventions based on the principals of applied behavior analysis as well as methods used to train and support staff in providing the best possible treatment to the children served. Dr. Luce has accumulated 29 years of post-doctoral clinical experience and over 50 publications on behavioral programs for students with developmental disabilities and related staff training. He is often called upon to provide expert testimony on behalf of families and children with severe behavior disorders and has held numerous adjunct faculty and clinical consultation appointments at universities and clinics across the country as well as overseas. He is the author of numerous articles, chapters, and monographs published in professional journals and books. His most popular book at this time is entitled Behavioral Intervention for the Young Child with Autism: A Manual For Parents And Professionals which he edited with Dr. Catherine Maurice and Dr. Gina Green. In 2007, Dr. Luce was awarded the Distinguished Alumnus Award by the Marietta College Alumni Association. |
