The Chris Maurer Vocational Program at Melmark serves transitional (ages 18-21) students and adults who require individualized instructional, vocational and behavioral support.
The program is named in honor of Chris Maurer, a young man who participated in Melmark's programs and was an inspiration to the entire Melmark community.
Instruction takes place in both classroom and community settings and addresses:
- Vocational skills training (job sampling and shadowing)
- Life skills training (safety, travel, personal finances, self care)
- Service learning
- Decision making
Program staff work closely with students and their families to develop goals and instructional strategies. The Vocational Program follows a Supported Employment Model (staff oversight and support) in conjunction with the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis.

The overall goal of the Chris Maurer Vocational Program is to assist each individual in identifying a job opportunity that allows them to enjoy their work.

- Community service assignments
- Hospitality and housekeeping
Experience a Variety of Programs
Students are provided with a variety of work and instructional experiences ranging from on-campus training programs, to community-based job sampling, to independent paid employment opportunities in the community.
