Melmark Programs for Families & Community

Melmark seeks to collaborate with families in creating individual care plans that meet clients’ special needs throughout their life cycle. Parents partner with staff in planning, implementing, and reviewing their child’s educational and residential goals. Family members are encouraged to attend activities throughout the year, including The Melmark School open houses, monthly birthday dinners, intergenerational Hanukkah and Christmas parties, bi-annual musicals produced by the Melmark Players, and the Melmark Spring Festival.

Our Family Resource Center provides families with counseling, information, support, and links to other resources in the community. Our Social Worker assists families who have students transitioning to adult programming with planning for the future. She also helps adult consumers and their families encountering mid-life and later years to make adjustments as their roles and lifestyles change. Individual, family, and group counseling are also available.

For more information about the Family Resource Center, contact Suzanne Muench, Social Worker, at 610-325-2937 or suzannemuench@melmark.org.

Melmark also provides on-site workshops for families, staff, and community members on topics such as Autism, Applied Behavior Analysis, Special Education Law, Financial Planning, Special Needs Trusts, and Guardianship for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Within the community, Melmark has a long tradition of partnering with local corporations, organizations, and centers of higher learning. We provide internships for students and professionals who are furthering their education in special education or related fields.

The Country Garden Guild, part of the Meadows at Melmark, is an innovative, work-centered program for adults with mild-to-moderate disabilities; it also serves as an international training center for professionals seeking to develop specialized skills and therapeutic programs for adults with special needs.

The Joybells, Melmark’s touring handbell choir, perform regularly at churches, schools, and colleges as well as corporate and community events. They have performed at venues across the country, including a Pennsylvania gubernatorial inauguration and three White House events.
