The Melmark School

The Melmark School offers day and residential special education services to children and adolescents ages 5 to 21 with learning difficulties and/or challenging behaviors secondary to a diagnosis of:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Acquired Brain Injury.
  • Mental Retardation, mild to profound.
  • Cerebral Palsy and/or Neurological Disorders.

Individualized, Innovative Programming

  • Maximizing learning opportunities, encouraging students to achieve their potential.
  • Utilizing cutting-edge professional “best practices”:
    • Applied behavior analysis.
    • Collaborative clinical service delivery.
    • Functional curricula.
    • Pre-vocational training and transition services.

Residential Services and 24-Hour Learning
The Melmark School offers a residential option designed to accommodate students at every phase of development. Our 24-hour learning model emphasizes high staff-to-student ratios in all settings, with individualized lessons, teaching methods, and goals that remain consistent across all settings. We ensure that students develop and practice essential self-care skills in the environments in which they are used.

Jessica E. Woods, PhD, BCBA

Director of Professional Development and Training

Melmark, Inc. is pleased to welcome Dr Jessica Woods as the new Director of Professional Development and Training. Dr Woods received her doctorate in 2004 in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She completed her pre-doctoral training at The May Institute, Inc., providing school consultation/ outreach and home-based behavioral programming to support children and families with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She completed post-doctoral training and served as the Coordinator of Clinical and Educational Services at the May Center for Neurorehabilitation. Dr Woods received her undergraduate degree in Psychology in 1994 and master’s degree in Child Clinical Psychology in 1997, both from West Virginia University. She brings over 10 years of clinical practice in serving children and adults with intellectual, developmental and challenging behaviors across inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization, educational, and outpatient settings and is especially proud that her volunteer work as a Special Olympics coach and peer mentor began almost 20 years ago. Dr Woods is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and has held adjunct faculty appointments at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ, High Point University in High Point, NC and Fairmont State College in Fairmont, WV.
