With a multi-disciplinary staff of experienced professionals, Melmark
is uniquely positioned to offer individualized functional assessment and
treatment planning, as well as staff and parent training. We extend services
to public and private schools, human service agencies, parents, and professionals
who serve children with developmental disabilities and/or behavior disorders.
The Treatment Team
The consultant team consists of doctoral and master’s level rehabilitative
therapists, behavior analysts, teachers, and clinicians. All team members
have expertise serving children with developmental disabilities and collaborating
with school administrators, directors of special services, principals,
guidance counselors, teachers, classroom aides, child study team members,
and families.
The Consultation Process
Consultants gather information by interviewing teachers, child study team
members, and therapists; reviewing students’ records and reports;
and observing children first-hand in natural settings. Together, the consultant
and the teaching team:
- Identify and prioritize challenging behaviors.
- Identify the function(s) of challenging behaviors.
- Develop effective interventions.
- Demonstrate the recommended interventions .
- Provide feedback to those who implement or supervise interventions.
- Measure the treatment’s effectiveness.
- Make modifications in treatment as needed.
Additional Services: Workshops & Training Seminars
Workshops and seminars for parent/school training cover a wide range of
topics, including but not limited to:
- Understanding behavioral approaches.
- Theories and principles of learning and behavior.
- Everyday application of behavioral principles.
- Identifying and prioritizing challenging behaviors.
- Strategies to increase appropriate behaviors.
- Strategies to decrease inappropriate behaviors.
