Melmark has always been transparent about the financial challenges facing human service providers in Pennsylvania, with low reimbursement rates for direct support professionals, workforce hiring challenges, and state-wide closures of other providers leaving 15,000 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities on Pennsylvania’s waiting list for services.
We now find ourselves facing new and unprecedented uncertainties around the federal funding streams that are crucial to our mission.
While advocacy and fiscal prudence are two of the long-standing pillars of our strategic and financial planning, it is philanthropy that has the most direct and immediate impact on all that we do.
We need that philanthropic support now more than ever through generous gifts to The Melmark Annual Fund.

Recurring Gifts enable donors to stretch their level of support by spreading their commitments into monthly payments. Matching Gifts provide matching gift company employees, and sometimes retirees or spouses, with the opportunity to double or even triple the impact of their gifts. Gifts through stocks, donor advised funds, or IRA distributions can provide donors with additional tax benefits. Through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit program, Pennsylvania donors could receive a 90% state tax credit for their gift.
